Results come from the Ministry within 14 days; you can retake right away

The Ministry emails your result and posts it in QuARTS. If you fail, register and pay $150 again. Appeals must be filed within 5 business days.

BCIN exam results come from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, not Humber: an Examination Results Notification is emailed within 14 days of your exam and also posted in QuARTS. If you fail, you can retake with no published waiting period by registering and paying the $150 fee again, and if you think a question or the process was wrong you have 5 business days to appeal.

This page covers what happens after you submit. Facts come from Humber Polytechnic's published policies and Candidate Protocol; check Humber's pages for changes before you act.

The timeline at a glance

Exam day You submit; no score is shown Online or test centre
Within 14 days Ministry emails the Examination Results Notification The email in your QuARTS profile

Any time after a fail Register again and pay $150 Humber registration

The pass mark is 70%, which on a 70-question exam is 49 correct answers. Every question is worth the same.

Getting your result

Humber's Candidate Protocol says the Ministry sends the result to the email in your QuARTS profile and that you may also log in to QuARTS to see it. A few practical points:

  • Keep your QuARTS email current. It is your responsibility, and an old work email is the most common reason people think a result is "late".
  • Results are not given by phone or in person. If you have no computer access you can ask for the result by registered mail.
  • Humber does not release scores. It delivers the exam; the Ministry marks and reports it.
  • Our registration and cost page quotes Humber's FAQ, which describes the window as 14 business days. Either way, allow about two to three weeks before you chase it.

If you passed

Passing an exam qualifies you in that category; it does not register you. To practise:

Most roles need one legal exam plus a technical exam, so check which BCIN exams do I need for what is still missing.

If you failed: retaking

Humber's examination policy is short: candidates who fail may retake the exam, and must complete the registration process and pay the examination fee again. There is no published limit on attempts and no waiting period. In practice:

  1. Register and pay $150 with Humber.
  2. Wait for the Meazure Learning account email (1 to 2 business days).
  3. Book at least 7 days ahead and finish within 1 year of registering.

Because there is no forced gap, the real question is how long you need to fix what went wrong. Two to four weeks of targeted practice is a common choice, but it depends on how close you were and why you missed.

Missed exams

If you miss your time slot for any reason you are marked a No-Show, the fee is forfeited, and you must reapply and pay again. Humber says there are no exceptions, so reschedule in Meazure Learning at least 7 days ahead if your plans change.

Appeals

Humber handles appeals in three categories: the examination process, examination questions, and misconduct findings. The rules that matter:

Rule What it means for you
Submit within 5 business days Count from when the result is sent; do not wait for a second attempt to decide
68% is not a just cause Being close to 70% is not by itself a reason; name the specific question concern
Ministry reviews question appeals The content decision is the Ministry's, not Humber's
Code references for failed challenges Even if your appeal fails, the Ministry identifies code references for the questions you challenged

That last point is useful. A focused appeal on one or two questions you genuinely believe were wrong or ambiguous gets you specific references to study, even when it does not change the result. Do not quote or share exam questions anywhere else: divulging question content is misconduct under Humber's policy.

Why people fail, and what to change

Most candidates who fail know the material well enough; what costs them marks is the clock and the search. Common patterns:

  • Running out of time. Seventy questions in 180 minutes is about 2 minutes 34 seconds each. People who spend 6 minutes on a calculation guess the last ten.
  • Slow code navigation. The online exam uses Humber's PDF in the browser, without split screen at home. If you studied from a tabbed hard copy, practise with the PDF.
  • Calculations and Supplementary Standards. Footing widths, span tables, spatial separation, SB-2 and SB-12 lookups are where many lose marks. Our calculation lab works each method step by step, for example footing sizing and joist, rafter and beam spans.
  • Excluded or missed sections. Studying from the wrong syllabus, or skipping a section such as Part 2 farm buildings, which is new in the 2024 Code.

Before you rebook:

  1. Write down every topic you remember struggling with, by Code section (not the questions themselves).
  2. Re-read those chapters of your exam's free study guide, for example House or Small Buildings.
  3. Do at least two full timed 70-question practice runs and check where the time went.
  4. Read how to pass the open book BCIN exam and our study plan for a short retake schedule.

A failed attempt costs another $150, so the time spent fixing pace is usually worth more than another week of reading. For an honest look at difficulty, see is the BCIN exam hard.

Frequently asked questions

How long do BCIN exam results take?
Humber's Candidate Protocol says the Ministry sends an Examination Results Notification within 14 days of the exam to the email in your QuARTS profile. You can also check QuARTS. Results are not given by phone or in person, and Humber does not release scores.
Do I see my score right after the online exam?
No. Even online exams are marked and released by the Ministry afterwards. Watch your email and QuARTS.
How soon can I retake a failed BCIN exam?
Humber publishes no waiting period and no limit on attempts. You complete the registration process and pay the $150 exam fee again, then book at least 7 days ahead.
Can I appeal if I got 68% or 69%?
Not on the score alone. Humber's appeals page says reaching a 68% threshold is not a just cause for an appeal about exam questions. You need a specific concern about a question, the process or a misconduct finding.
What is the deadline for a BCIN exam appeal?
The Request for Appeal must be submitted within 5 business days, according to Humber's appeals page. File it quickly once your result arrives.
What happens if I miss my exam?
You are marked a No-Show, the fee is forfeited, and you must register and pay again. Humber says there are no exceptions.
